Introduction to the Department
The Department of Information Management and Finance in National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) is the first FinTech-oriented department established in 2004, which meets the need for the trend of digital economy development in Taiwan. Main Features of Programs and Degrees
1. The Bachelor’s Degree
The undergraduate program consists of two divisions: (1) Information Management and (2) Finance Division. Following the curriculum, students are required to study the basic knowledge of Information Management and Finance-related subjects suggesting that students in each division must take professional subjects required in another division. In general, the offered information-related courses are as competitive as those offered by the Department of Computer Science. Nevertheless, we further aim more to equip students with information knowledge applied in the financial fields, such as information security, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and FinTech practices. The learning goal of our cross-disciplinary curriculum is to cultivate professionals with a dual major in Information Management and Finance for the needs of digital financial and FinTech trends.

2. The Master’s Degree (Full-time MBA)
The MBA program consists of three divisions: (1) financial Decisions, (2) financial engineering, and (3) data science. All of the divisions not only require students to acquire finance domain knowledge, but also the capacity of information management. The division of financial decisions cultivates students with professional subjects in corporate finance, investment, and financial institutions. The division of financial engineering aims at financial innovation, derivatives, and financial risk controls. In general, these two divisions offer students with professional subjects similar to the regular training of MBA in Finance. Specifically, the division of data science was established with a focus on cultivating professionals demanded by the FinTech industry which requires more advanced information expertise. The offered courses, resources, and training with faculties are as competitive as those offered by the Institute of Information Engineering. Nevertheless, we further aim more to equip students with information knowledge applied to the financial field.

3. The Advanced Master’s Degree (Advanced MBA)
The Advanced MBA program is designed for middle and high-level managers who have the enthusiasm to acquire new knowledge and skills. As NYCU is adjacent to the Hsinchu Science Park, one major category of our students comes from the IT industry and serves as R&D engineers or supervisors. Another major category of students is from the financial service industry, including the banking, investment trust, securities, and insurance sectors. Based on the diversity of students, all participants benefit from professional lectures, work experience, and social connections. In terms of curriculum, requirement courses emphasize “basic concepts and framework” along with elective courses which are “application and practice-oriented”. By bridging the basics to the application, we attempt to help students apply the taken subjects to work, entrepreneurship, and personal investment fields.

4. The Ph.D. Degree
The training of our doctoral programs aims to equip students with solid academic training in Finance by an in-depth discussion of fundamental theories along with practical issues and development needs of high-tech enterprises. It is our goal to cultivate Ph.D. students to have the research capacity with rooted and productive output which meets the target of internationalized research and localized application. In addition to the advanced academic courses regarding finance, the division of artificial intelligence has been added to our doctoral program recently. Meanwhile, we offer advanced academic courses related to FinTech. It is expected that the Ph.D. students are capable of conducting FinTech research.
